Samina Baig becomes first Pakistani woman to summit K2
On Friday morning, renowned mountaineer Samina Baig added another feather to her cap by becoming the first Pakistani woman to scale the world’s second highest peak, K2.
Baig reached the summit of Savage Mountain (8611 meters) this morning at 7:42 a.m., having stopped the push on Thursday due to extreme weather conditions.
Samina is now the only Pakistani woman to have climbed both the highest and second highest mountains in the world, having conquered the ‘Savage Mountain.’
She also has the distinction of having scaled the world’s seven highest peaks, known as the Seven Summits.
Baig, who was born in Gilgit-Baltistan, became the first Pakistani woman to scale Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain, in 2013.
Meanwhile, Naila Kiani is the second Pakistani woman to reach the summit of the world’s second highest peak.
