Punjab Announces New School Timings After Summer Vacations

The Punjab School Education Department has announced new school timings for the province, including Lahore, beginning August 1.

As a result, boys’ schools will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 1:00 p.m. Meanwhile, girls’ schools will be open from 7:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On Fridays, however, school will end at 11:30 a.m. for boys and 11:00 a.m. for girls.

Schools that run two shifts will have the first shift from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the second shift from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

Furthermore, the winter schedule will be in effect beginning October 15th.

The Punjab government announced summer vacations from 1 June to 31 July 2022 in May.

Previously, the provincial education department had threatened to close the afternoon schools if funds were not provided within a month because teachers had not been paid.

In May, 7,000 Insaf Afternoon Schools in the province were on the verge of closure due to a lack of funds, and it was revealed that thousands of teachers had not been paid for nearly four months.

The teachers’ dues would be paid as soon as the funds were received, according to a department spokesman.

While the provincial government stated that it does not have enough funds to fund the Insaf Afternoon Schools, it did release Rs. 3.5 billion to run the administrative affairs of Punjab’s public schools. According to a notification issued by the Finance Department, over Rs. 140 million of the total amount released was given to government schools.
