  • Husayn ibn Ali (Sha’aban 4 AH – 10th Muharram 61 AH; 8 January 626 CE – 10 October 680 CE) was Muhammad’s grandson who fought tyranny by refusing to pledge allegiance to Yazid. On October 10, 680 (Muharram 10, 61 AH), he and his small group of followers and family members, numbering 72 or more, fought against a large army. Husayn and his men were all martyred.
