The federal government has decided to provide significant relief to university students in flood-affected areas, including fee waivers and scholarships, according to Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain on Wednesday.
The decision comes after a meeting with the chairman of the Higher Education Commission and other ministry officials to devise a strategy to respond quickly to the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan.
The government would defer current/due university fee payments, devise a mechanism/possibility for a fee waiver, and announce a special scholarship program (undergraduate and graduation) for students from flood-affected areas as part of the relief package.
The federal minister stated that Shahbaz Sharif government is fully committed to providing maximum relief to flood victims.
Rana Tanveer stated that the government will do whatever it takes to help the people in these difficult times.
“Our top priority is to raise funds, provide food and tents, and establish medical camps and transitional schools.”
