In an encouraging development, 50 Pakistani universities have been ranked in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023. These rankings seek to identify the best higher education institutions in Asia. Only two have made it to Asia’s top 100 universities.

NUST is followed by Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Only NUST and QAU are among the top 100 Asian universities.

Since 2009, QS has published the QS Asia University Rankings. The methodology used to compile these rankings is similar to that used to compile the QS World University Rankings, but with some additional indicators.

Here are the indicators against which Asian universities are judged:

  • International research network
  • Citations per paper
  • Papers per faculty
  • Staff with a PhD
  • Proportion of international faculty
  • Proportion of international students
  • Proportion of inbound exchange students
  • Proportion of outbound exchange students

Overall, 760 universities were included in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023, making it the largest Asia University Rankings since its inception in 2009.

This year, Peking University is the best Asian higher education institute, with National University of Singapore coming in second place. Tsinghua University is Asia’s third best university.
