UN Warns of Record-Breaking Heat Waves in 2023

As El Nino intensifies warming, current record temperatures might become worse. The UN has urged everyone to get ready for increasingly severe weather.

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), the UN’s weather office, issued a warning on Wednesday stating that it is very possible that the El Nino climatic pattern will return later this year.

The naturally occurring phenomena is linked to rising temperatures, which might boost the current high heat records.

According to the WMO, there is a 60% chance of an El Nino by the end of July and an 80% chance by the end of September.

Wilfran Moufouma Okia, a WMO representative, told reporters in Geneva that “this will change the weather and climate patterns worldwide.”
